Osterley's Dairy History
The First Creamery
Osterley was home to the very first creamery in the lower Hunter area. It opened in April 1892. A creamery is a place where milk is processed to make butter and other dairy products.
Hunter River Pioneer Co-operative Creamery
The creamery was officially called the Hunter River Pioneer Co-operative Creamery. But many people just called it the Osterley Creamery. It was an important part of the local farming community.
Creamery Closure
Sadly, the creamery closed its doors in November 1903. Even though it operated for only about 11 years, it played a key role in the region's dairy history.
