New Beith is a quiet area in Queensland, Australia. It's a place where people live on larger blocks of land, often with some animals or gardens. This area is part of the City of Logan. In 2021, about 5,642 people called New Beith home. It's a great spot if you like more space than in a busy city.

Geography

The eastern side of New Beith is next to the main railway line. This line goes between Sydney and Brisbane.

There is a small hill called Round Mountain in the south-east. It rises to about 154 meters above sea level.

Water from the southern and eastern parts of New Beith flows into the Logan River. Water from the north and west flows into Oxley Creek.

Most of the land in the north is used for homes with large yards. In the south, people use the land for grazing animals. Some areas also have small farms for growing plants.

History

The name New Beith comes from a town in Scotland. This town is called Beith and is in Ayrshire. Cecelia, the wife of an early European settler named Richard Tyson Wilson, came from there.

New Beith State School opened in March 1916. It had 18 students and a teacher named Gladys Heany. The school closed on 9 July 1950. This happened because there were not enough students to keep both New Beith and Greenbank State Schools open. The old school was located at 606-610 New Beith Road.

New Beith used to be part of the Shire of Beaudesert. In March 2008, local government areas changed. New Beith then became part of Logan City.

On 20 May 2016, some parts of southern New Beith were separated. These parts became new areas called Silverbark Ridge and Flagstone.

Population

In 2011, New Beith had 3,446 people. About 49.3% were female and 50.7% were male. The average age was 32 years, which was younger than the national average of 37.

Most people (78.5%) living in New Beith were born in Australia. Other countries of birth included England (5.5%) and New Zealand (3.9%).

In 2016, the population of New Beith grew to 4,081 people. This was an 18.4% increase since 2011. The average weekly household income was $2,266. This was higher than the national average of $1,438. By 2021, New Beith had 5,642 people.
