New Super Mario Bros. is a fun platform game made by Nintendo for their Nintendo DS handheld console. It was the first Mario platform game in 2D for a handheld device since Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins came out in 1992.
The game was first released in North America on May 15, 2006. It then came out in Japan on May 25, 2006, in Australia on June 8, 2006, and in Europe on June 30, 2006. A follow-up game, New Super Mario Bros. Wii for the Nintendo Wii, was released a few years later in 2009.

Story
The game's story begins with Mario and Princess Peach enjoying a peaceful walk. Suddenly, Bowser Jr. appears and kidnaps Princess Peach! Mario must then go on an adventure through eight different worlds to rescue her.
Gameplay
New Super Mario Bros. brings back many classic features from older Mario games. For example, the game has a countdown clock. If Mario doesn't reach the end of the level before time runs out, he loses a life.
Just like in the original Super Mario Bros., Mario needs to jump and grab a flagpole at the end of each level. After grabbing the flagpole, he enters a castle. Before and after each level, you'll see Mario on a world map, which was last used in Super Mario World.
Mario also has some cool new moves that first appeared in the 3D Mario games, like Super Mario 64 and Sunshine. He can perform a ground pound, where he slams down from the air. He can also do a triple jump, which lets him jump three times in a row to reach higher places.
