Becoming a Game Creator
Takashi Tezuka finished his studies at the Design Department of Osaka University of Arts. He then joined Nintendo in April 1984. Right away, he started helping to design some of Nintendo's most popular game series. These include the Mario games and The Legend of Zelda games.
Tezuka really enjoys fantasy books. He especially likes The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien. This love for fantasy helped him write the stories and scripts for the first The Legend of Zelda game. He also wrote for Zelda II: The Adventure of Link.
Tezuka also helped create the popular character Yoshi. Yoshi first appeared in Super Mario World. Shigeru Miyamoto had wanted Mario to ride a dinosaur ever since Super Mario Bros. 3. Tezuka helped make that idea a reality with Yoshi.
Making Games for Everyone
Takashi Tezuka believes that games should be fun for everyone. He once said:
I have never consciously separated casual users and hardcore gamers when I design a game. For the past 20 years, I have always been trying to make games so that anyone—as many people as possible—can enjoy them... I cannot help but say that I love my job of making games from the bottom of my heart.
This means he tries to make games that both new players and experienced players can enjoy. He truly loves his job of creating video games.
