Newfane is a small, charming village in Windham County, Vermont, United States. It is part of the larger town of Newfane. In 2020, only 87 people lived here, making it a very quiet place!

Most of the village is recognized as a special historic area. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. This area is called the Newfane Village Historic District. It is built around a central village green, which is like a park in the middle of town.

This historic district includes more than 60 buildings. Many of these buildings are built in the Greek Revival style. This style was popular in the 1800s and looks like ancient Greek temples. The Windham County Courthouse, built in 1825, is one of the important buildings in this district. The Historical Society of Windham County also has its main office in Newfane.

Geography of Newfane Village

The village of Newfane is located in the eastern part of the town of Newfane. It sits right next to Smith Creek, which is a small stream that flows into the West River. The village is built on a fairly flat area on the east side of the creek.

On its eastern side, the village is bordered by an old railroad track. This track used to be part of the Boston & Maine Railroad. The main road through the village is Main Street, also known as Vermont Route 30. Another road, West Street, branches off from Main Street near the village common.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village covers a total area of about 0.2 square miles (0.5 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no water.
