Early Life and Music Start
Nick Mira grew up loving music. As a child, he learned to play the guitar. Later, he also learned to play the keyboard and piano. He started focusing on making music (producing) when he was 13 years old. Nick says that famous producer Pharrell Williams inspired him.
Nick describes his music style as "melodic" and "ambient." This means his beats often have clear, flowing tunes and a dreamy, relaxed feel. He finished high school at James River High School in 2019. When he first started, Nick wanted to sell his music beats like they were finished songs. But he soon learned more about how the music business works.
Building a Music Career
Nick Mira first met other producers, Taz Taylor and DT, online in 2016. They connected through a Twitch stream. They all shared a similar way of selling and promoting their music beats. They used platforms like YouTube and SoundCloud.
Forming Internet Money
The three producers decided to team up. They formed a group that became Internet Money Records. Their goal was to help lesser-known producers get noticed. They also wanted to connect producers with artists who might want to work with them.
Nick started his career by selling beats online. But over time, his way of making music changed. He found that creating a "good time and vibe" in the studio made the music-making process easier and more fun.
Working with Juice WRLD
Nick Mira began working with rapper Jarad Higgins, known as Juice WRLD, in 2016. They met through a friend, Sidepce (also known as DT). At the time, Nick remembered Juice WRLD only had about 300 followers on SoundCloud.
Nick started sending his beats to Juice WRLD online. This led to Nick producing several songs on Juice WRLD's 2018 debut album, Goodbye and Good Riddance. These songs included "All Girls Are the Same," "Lucid Dreams," and "Lean Wit Me." "Lucid Dreams" became a huge hit. It reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It has sold over 14 million copies around the world.
In April 2018, Internet Money signed a deal with Alamo and Interscope Records. This helped them distribute their music even wider.
Nick and Juice WRLD kept working together on the 2019 album Death Race for Love. Nick often sent Juice WRLD many beats. They even had over 100 unreleased songs in 2019. Nick felt that this album showed how much both he and Juice WRLD had grown as artists. He also said that hardcore rock bands influenced the album's sound. Death Race For Love was released on March 8, 2019. Nick produced four songs on it, including "Empty" and "Robbery." The album reached number one on the Billboard 200 chart.
Other Big Hits
In 2019, Nick Mira also produced Lil Tecca's song "Ransom" with Taz Taylor. This song reached number four on the Billboard Hot 100. Later that year, he worked with Post Malone on his song "On the Road." This song also featured Meek Mill and Lil Baby. It peaked at number 22 on the Billboard Hot 100.
In 2020, Nick produced several songs for Juice WRLD's first album released after his passing, Legends Never Die. This included "Smile" with the Weeknd. Nick also produced "Lemonade." This was a collaboration with Gunna, featuring Don Toliver and Nav. "Lemonade" became a global hit. It reached number one in the United Kingdom. It also made it into the top ten of the Hot 100 chart in the US.
Later in 2020, Nick helped produce 10 songs on the Internet Money album B4 the Storm. This album reached number one on the US Billboard 200 chart. The album featured artists like Lil Tecca, TyFontaine, and 24kGoldn. Nick has continued to produce music for these artists.
Nick Mira's Musical Style
Nick Mira mostly creates beats for hip-hop artists. However, he has also explored other music styles. For example, he produced songs on Machine Gun Kelly's pop-punk album Tickets to My Downfall.
Nick describes his production style as "melodic," "dynamic," and "spacious." This means his music often has clear tunes, lots of energy, and a wide, open sound. He gets ideas from artists like Pharrell Williams, Kanye West, Metro Boomin, Lex Luger, and Sonny Digital. These producers have all had a big impact on hip-hop music.
Influence on "Type Beats"
Nick Mira and other Internet Money members are known for helping make "type beats" popular. A "type beat" is an instrumental track that sounds like something a well-known artist might use. This helps more people find the beat online.
Some people have debated Internet Money's marketing methods. But Nick explains that he focuses on making music he likes. He says that tagging artists with "type beat" is just based on who he thinks would sound good on his music.
Nick started producing at a young age. He has noticed how popular Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) software is among young people. He even said that "producing is the new video game."
Nick believes it's important to work with new, rising artists. This helps them build their fan bases and grow with the Internet Money label. He also thinks working with artists in the studio is better than working online. This is true no matter how famous the artist is.
