Early Life and Education
Nigar Jamal was born in Baku on September 7, 1980. Her birth name was Nigar Mutallibzadeh. In 1997, she started studying economics and management at Khazar University. She completed three years of her four-year degree.
Before she became a singer, Nigar Jamal was a housewife for five years. She has said that singers like Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, and Brandy Norwood inspired her music. She also mentioned Craig David and Chris Brown as inspirations.

Winning Eurovision Song Contest 2011
In December 2010, Nigar Jamal joined Azerbaijan's national singing competition. This competition chose who would represent Azerbaijan at Eurovision. She did very well in the early rounds.
In the final, Nigar and Eldar Gasimov won the chance to represent their country. They went to Düsseldorf, Germany, for the Eurovision Song Contest 2011. They performed as the duo Ell & Nikki. Their song, "Running Scared", was written by people from Sweden and the UK. They won the contest with a total of 221 points!
After Eurovision: New Music and Shows
After winning Eurovision in 2011, Nigar and Eldar traveled to many countries. They performed their winning song for fans around the world. Azerbaijan even printed 15,000 postage stamps to celebrate their victory.
In September 2011, Nigar appeared in a TV comedy show in Turkey. The show was called Yahşi Cazibe.
In 2012, Nigar was part of a group of five musicians from Azerbaijan. They were chosen to be judges for Denmark's national selection for Eurovision.
On December 1, 2011, Nigar released her first solo song and music video after Eurovision. It was called "Crush on You". She also released other new songs. One was a duet with Miri Yusif called "Qal" (which means "Stay"). She also sang a duet with Dima Bilan, who won Eurovision in 2008. Their song was called "Come Into My World".
On August 11, 2012, Nigar released her first album. It was titled "Play With Me". She worked with a songwriter from Denmark named Boe Larsen on this album.
In early 2014, Nigar was a judge on the Turkish TV show X Factor. The person she coached ended up winning the show!
