Noardeast-Fryslân is a municipality (like a local government area) in the northern Netherlands. It's part of the Friesland province. This municipality was created on January 1, 2019. It was formed by joining three older municipalities: Dongeradeel, Ferwerderadiel, and Kollumerland en Nieuwkruisland.
Noardeast-Fryslân is located on the coast of the Wadden Sea. It shares borders with other municipalities like Waadhoeke and Leeuwarden. It also borders the province of Groningen. In January 2019, about 45,181 people lived here. This makes it the seventh-most populated municipality in Friesland. The largest town is Dokkum, which had about 12,576 residents in 2018. People living here often speak West Frisian, a Dutch Low Saxon dialect, or Dutch.
The municipality also includes two sandbanks: Engelsmanplaat and most of the Rif sandbank.
