A Look at History
North Bennington has a rich history! The North Bennington Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. This means it's a special area recognized for its important historical buildings.
The district covers about 112 acres (0.45 square kilometers). It includes 164 buildings and two sites that help tell the story of the village. One famous spot is the Park-McCullough Historic House. This is a very well-preserved, large Victorian home with 35 rooms. It's like stepping back in time!
Where is North Bennington?
North Bennington is in the northwest part of the town of Bennington. To its north is the town of Shaftsbury. The Walloomsac River forms the southern border of the village.
Two main roads pass through the village:
- Vermont Route 67 goes northeast towards South Shaftsbury. It also heads west to the New York state line. There, it becomes New York State Route 67.
- Vermont Route 67A meets VT 67 in the village center. It leads southeast to downtown Bennington.
Part of Bennington College is actually located right on the border of North Bennington.

Today, there's interest in bringing passenger train service back. The idea is for a new Amtrak route between Albany, New York, and Burlington, Vermont.
