Noyes Mountain is a cool mountain located in Maine, a state in the northeastern United States. It stands near the town of South Paris. This mountain is named after George Lorenzo Noyes, who was important in the area's history. He built and operated a place called Harvard Quarry, which was close to the mountain.

Where the Water Goes

Noyes Mountain is part of a special area called a watershed. Imagine a watershed like a giant bowl or funnel! All the rain and snow that falls on the mountain and its surroundings eventually flows into streams and rivers.

The water from Noyes Mountain travels into the Little Androscoggin River. This river then joins the larger Androscoggin River. Finally, the water from the Androscoggin River flows into Merrymeeting Bay, which is part of the Kennebec River estuary (where a river meets the sea).

  • Water from the east and south sides of Noyes Mountain flows into Pennesseewassee Lake. From there, it goes into Pennesseewassee Stream and then into the Little Androscoggin River.
  • The northeast side of the mountain drains into Niles Brook, which also connects to the Little Androscoggin River.
  • Water from the west side of Noyes Mountain flows into Mud Pond. From Mud Pond, it travels to Hicks Pond and then into Niles Brook.
