How Water Flows in Nuss Lake

The area around Klamath has a special natural water system. Much of this region, including Poe, Langell, and Yonna valleys, gets its water from the Lost River. This river and its smaller streams flow into several lakes. Eventually, they empty into Tule Lake.

Even though there aren't many natural springs in Klamath County, some permanent springs come out from the bottom of Nuss Lake. These are places where water naturally flows out of the ground.

The Olene flume is a channel that carries water for irrigation. It supplies water to farms in the South Poe Valley and Nuss Lake areas. This system helps water about 4,200 acres (1,700 hectares) of land. About 60% of this land is used for growing crops.
