Exploring Oakwood's Location
Oakwood is bordered by the Burnett River to the south. Splitters Creek runs along its western side. The North Coast railway line forms the north-eastern edge of Oakwood. However, there are no train stations in the area.
Camp Island is a small island in the Burnett River. It is also part of the Oakwood area.
Most of the land in Oakwood is used for farming. Farmers grow crops using irrigation, which means they water their fields. Some areas are also used for grazing animals. While sugarcane is grown here, it's not the main crop, unlike in many other farming areas near Bundaberg.
Two important roads pass through Oakwood. The Bundaberg-Gin Gin Road runs from east to west. The Bundaberg-Miriam Vale Road heads north from Oakwood.

A Look at Oakwood's Past
A church was built in Oakwood by 1909. It was offered to the Presbyterian Church, who held regular services there until at least 1923. Later, the Methodist Church bought the building. They replaced it with a new church in 1936. The Methodists continued to use this church until at least 1976.
Oakwood State School opened its doors on March 24, 1924. James Whalley was the first head teacher. The school celebrated its 100th birthday in 2024!
