Oberlunkhofen is a small town in Switzerland. It is located in the canton of Aargau. The town is part of the Bremgarten district. It sits on a ridge above the Reuss river. Oberlunkhofen has a long and interesting history.

History of Oberlunkhofen
People have lived in the area of Oberlunkhofen for a very long time. The oldest signs of human life are items from the Bronze Age. This was a time thousands of years ago.
Roman Settlements
Later, during the Roman era, a large farm was built here. It had a porch and two side wings. There was also a Roman villa from the 1st to 3rd centuries. This villa even had a bathhouse with heated rooms.
Near the Roman villa, an Alemanni graveyard was found. The Alemanni were a group of Germanic people. Walls from these old buildings were first found in 1897–98. They were later protected between 1975 and 1980.
The Village Through Time
The modern village of Oberlunkhofen was first mentioned in the 9th century. Back then, it was called Lunchunft. Later, in 1232, it was known as Lunchuft. By 1309, it was called obern Lunchuft. This means "upper Lunchuft."
There was once a castle near the village. However, no records tell us much about it. It was likely destroyed around 1386.
Changes in Ownership
The village used to belong to a church in Lucerne. This church was part of Murbach Abbey. In 1291, the village was sold to the House of Habsburg. This was a powerful European family.
In the early 14th century, Oberlunkhofen became important for the Habsburgs. It was a center of their region called Kelleramt. Over time, different towns gained control over parts of Oberlunkhofen. In 1414, Bremgarten gained some rights. In 1415, Zurich gained other rights.
In 1797, Bremgarten sold the village to four other towns in the Kelleramt. Then, in 1798, Oberlunkhofen became part of the Helvetic Republic. This was a short-lived republic in Switzerland.
The Parish Church
The main church for the Kelleramt region was in Oberlunkhofen. It was first mentioned in 1185. The church was controlled by different groups over the centuries. From 1403 until 1841, Muri Abbey was in charge.
The current church building was built in 1685. It stands where an older church from 1515 once stood. The very first church on this spot might have been built around the 10th century.
Modern Development
For a long time, farming and growing grapes were the main jobs here. In 1920, a bus line opened, connecting Oberlunkhofen to other towns. More bus lines opened later, even reaching Zurich by 1966.
After 1980, more people started moving to Oberlunkhofen. Many came from the larger city area of Zurich.
Geography of Oberlunkhofen
Oberlunkhofen covers an area of about 3.3 square kilometers (1.3 square miles). A large part of this land, about 56.5%, is used for farming. Forests cover 24% of the area.
About 15.8% of the land has buildings or roads. The rest, about 3.6%, is made up of rivers or other natural areas.
The town is located on a southern ridge of the Heitersberg hills. It sits above the right bank of the Reuss river.

The coat of arms for Oberlunkhofen is quite special. It shows a black lion walking on a gold background. The lion has red claws and tongue. Below that, on a red background, are two silver keys crossed over each other.

The Catholic parish church on Chileweg is a very important building. It is listed as a Swiss heritage site of national significance. This means it is a culturally important place for the whole country.
