OldTown Berhad, also known as OldTown White Coffee, is Malaysia's biggest chain of coffee restaurants. It is certified as halal, meaning its products follow Islamic dietary laws. The company also makes and sells instant coffee and other drink mixes.
OldTown White Coffee has more than 200 café locations. Most are in Malaysia, but you can also find them in other countries like Singapore, China, Indonesia, and Australia. The company plans to open even more cafés in places like Vietnam, South Korea, and Bangladesh.
The company started in 1999 in a city called Ipoh in Perak, Malaysia. In 2017, a Dutch beverage company named Jacobs Douwe Egberts Holdings Asia NL BV took over OldTown Berhad.

Company History
OldTown Berhad began its journey in 1999 in Ipoh, Perak. In 2005, the company decided to open its own coffee shops. These shops were designed to look and feel like traditional Ipoh coffee houses. They were named "OldTown White Coffee" and quickly became popular.
The company is listed on the main stock exchange in Malaysia, called Bursa Malaysia. In 2017, Jacobs Douwe Egberts Holdings Asia NL BV (JDE), a large Dutch drink company, bought OldTown Berhad for about RM1.47 billion.

By 2013, OldTown White Coffee had opened 200 stores across Malaysia. It took the company only seven years to reach this impressive number of locations.
Global Expansion
OldTown White Coffee has expanded its business beyond Malaysia. You can find their cafés in several other countries in Asia and Australia.
OldTown in Singapore
As of 2015, there were 10 OldTown White Coffee cafés in Singapore. All these locations are certified halal by the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS). This means they meet specific food preparation standards.
OldTown in Indonesia
Currently, OldTown White Coffee has 16 cafés in Indonesia. These locations are spread across different areas, including Java and Bali.
OldTown in Australia
OldTown had plans to open 40 cafés in Australia over 10 years. The first Australian OldTown café opened in August 2015 in Melbourne. However, this location closed in 2017.

As of 2015, OldTown White Coffee had four cafés operating in China.

In 2023, the Philippines opened its very first OldTown White Coffee branch. It is located in SM Grand Central in Caloocan City.
