OldTown Berhad, also known as OldTown White Coffee (Chinese: 舊街場白咖啡), is a very popular coffee restaurant chain from Malaysia. It is the biggest chain in Malaysia that serves halal-certified coffee. Halal means the food and drinks are prepared according to Islamic rules.

Besides their cafes, OldTown Berhad also makes and sells instant coffee and drink mixes that you can make at home. They have over 200 cafes in Malaysia and other countries like Singapore, China, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Australia. They also have plans to open in Vietnam, South Korea, and Bangladesh. The company started in 1999 in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia. In 2017, a big Dutch beverage company called Jacobs Douwe Egberts Holdings Asia NL BV took over OldTown Berhad.

How OldTown White Coffee Started

OldTown Berhad started in 1999 in a city called Ipoh, in Malaysia. In 2005, they opened their first cafes. These cafes were designed to feel like traditional Ipoh coffee shops, offering a cozy and familiar atmosphere.

The company is listed on the Bursa Malaysia, which is like a stock exchange where people can buy and sell parts of the company. In 2017, Jacobs Douwe Egberts Holdings Asia NL BV (JDE), a large Dutch drink company, bought OldTown Berhad. This deal was worth about RM1.47 billion.

OldTown had plans to open 40 cafes in Australia over 10 years. In August 2015, the very first OldTown cafe in Australia opened in Melbourne. However, this cafe later closed in 2017.
