Oldenzaal is a city and a municipality in the eastern part of the Netherlands. It is located in the province of Overijssel, close to the German border.
Oldenzaal became a city in 1249. Long ago, it was part of the Hanseatic League. This was a group of trading cities in Northern Europe. Oldenzaal was a smaller city connected to the larger trading city of Deventer.
The city is easy to reach by road and rail. The A1 motorway connects it to Amsterdam and Germany. There is also a train line to Hengelo and Bad Bentheim.
As of December 2022, about 31,958 people live in Oldenzaal.
Oldenzaal is very famous in the Netherlands for its exciting carnival celebrations. During carnival season, the city is called "Boeskool-stad." This means "Cabbage-town" in the local dialect. More than 100,000 people visit for the main carnival weekend. They come to see the huge parade with its impressive carnival floats.

The town has its own train station, called Oldenzaal railway station. This makes it easy to travel to and from the city.

Many interesting people have come from Oldenzaal. Here are a few:
- Balderic of Utrecht (897–975) was a Bishop of Utrecht. He served from 918 to 975.
- Henri Max Corwin (1903–1962) was a Dutch businessman. He was also a humanitarian who helped people during World War II.
- Mieke Telkamp (1934–2016) was a popular Dutch singer and TV personality.
- Hedy de Graas (born 1988), known as 'Ame Bibabi', is a Dutch rapper. She is also a well-known internet personality.

- Ellen van Langen (born 1966) is a former middle-distance runner. She won a gold medal in the 800-meter race at the 1992 Summer Olympics.
- Björn Kuipers (born 1973) is a famous Dutch football referee. He is listed by FIFA.
- Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink (born 1978) is a former Dutch footballer. He played in 438 club matches.
- Nathalie Timmermans (born 1989) is a Dutch softball player. She competed in the 2008 Summer Olympics.
- Sanne Wevers (born 1991) is a Dutch artistic gymnast. She won a gold medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
- Lieke Wevers (born 1991) is also a Dutch artistic gymnast. She won four medals at the 2015 European Games.
- Jill Roord (born 1997) is a Dutch midfield footballer.
- Erik ten Hag (born 1970) is a former footballer and a well-known coach. He is currently the head coach for Manchester United.
