Ormara is a coastal town in the Balochistan province of Pakistan. It is a port city located on the Arabian Sea. Ormara is about 360 kilometers (224 miles) west of Karachi. It is also 230 kilometers (143 miles) east of Gwadar. This town is mentioned in an ancient book called Periplus of the Erythraean Sea as Oraea.

A Look into Ormara's Past
Ormara is located along the Makran Coastal Highway. This highway connects it to Karachi and Gwadar. The town has a rich history. It is linked to Alexander the Great. He was a famous ancient Greek king and military leader.
Alexander the Great stayed in Ormara with his army. This happened around 400 BC. He was returning from his conquests in the Indus region. One of his generals, Ormoz, died here. The town was named after him.
For many years, Ormara was a place of conflict. Local leaders called Sardars fought against invaders. Before Pakistan became independent, Ormara was part of the Las Bela state. In 1975, it became part of the Makran Division.
Ormara was once a very isolated town. It did not develop much for a long time. However, things changed after the Makran Coastal Highway was built. The Jinnah Naval Base also brought many changes. These developments created more jobs for local people.
Today, Ormara still looks like an ancient town. Most people here earn their living by fishing. Some also work in countries in the Middle East. The highway has helped Ormara connect with Pakistan's economy. This has brought more trade and travel to the area.

Getting Around Ormara
