Owen Jones (born December 29, 1819 – died December 25, 1878) was an American politician from Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Democratic Party.
Jones served in the U.S. House of Representatives for one term. This was from 1857 to 1859. During the American Civil War, he became a colonel in the Union Army. He led a group of soldiers called cavalry.

Early Life and Education
Owen Jones was born on December 29, 1819. His family lived near Ardmore, Pennsylvania. He went to public schools and later studied at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
After college, he studied law and became a lawyer in 1842. He started his law practice in Ardmore. Besides law, he was also very interested in farming. He raised animals and worked to improve farming methods. He also served as a county commissioner, which is a local government official.
Political Career
Jones was elected to the United States Congress as a Democrat. He served in the Thirty-fifth Congress. While in Congress, he was the chairman of a committee. This committee looked at how money was spent in the Department of State.
He tried to get re-elected in 1858 but was not successful. In 1860, he was a delegate for Pennsylvania at the Democratic National Conventions. This meant he helped choose the party's candidate for president.
Military Service During the Civil War
When the American Civil War began, Owen Jones helped form a group of cavalry soldiers. Cavalry are soldiers who fight on horseback. This group was known as the Lower Merion Troop. It later became Company B of the 1st Pennsylvania Cavalry Regiment.
Jones fought in several important battles during the war. These included the Battle of Dranesville, the Battle of Cross Keys, and the Battle of Cedar Mountain. He also fought in the Second Battle of Bull Run and the Battle of Fredericksburg.
He also took part in a difficult military operation called the Mud March. This was his last battle in the Civil War. Jones started as a captain and was promoted several times. He became a major in 1861, a lieutenant colonel in 1862, and finally a colonel in May 1862. He left the army in October 1863 and went back home to practice law.
Personal Life and Legacy
Owen Jones married Mary Roberts. They had two children together.
He lived in a large house built in 1803. He called it Wynne Wood. Sadly, the house burned down in 1858 but was rebuilt. The name Wynnewood is now used for the area around the house, including the community of Wynnewood, Pennsylvania and the local train station. The land where his estate once stood is now part of the Merion Cricket Club.
Owen Jones died on December 25, 1878. He was found dead while walking to a neighbor's house for a social visit. He was buried in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia.
