Palo Verde is a small community located in Imperial County, California. Its name means "Green Stick" in Spanish. The community is named after a native desert tree, the Palo Verde (Parkinsonia florida). It is found in the Palo Verde Valley.
The border of Imperial County is just north of Palo Verde. Another community called Ripley is nearby in Riverside County. It sits along State Route 78, between Blythe and Palo Verde.
Palo Verde has a ZIP code of 92266. Residents use post office boxes because there is no direct mail delivery. The community has a U.S. Postal Service post office. There is also an Imperial County Sheriff's substation. The first post office in Palo Verde opened in 1903. It closed in 1940 and then reopened in 1949.

Where is Palo Verde?
Palo Verde is located near the Riverside County line. It is about 65 miles (105 km) northeast of El Centro. In 2020, 152 people lived there. This was a decrease from 171 people in 2010. The community is part of the El Centro area.
California State Route 78 (also known as Ben Hulse Highway) runs through Palo Verde. Most of the people live east of this highway. They live west of the nearby Colorado River. Palo Verde is also in the southern part of the Palo Verde Valley.
The United States Census Bureau says Palo Verde covers about 0.6 square miles (1.5 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
Palo Verde's Climate
Palo Verde has a desert climate. It gets very hot, especially in summer. The highest temperature ever recorded was 123°F (50.6°C) in June and July. Winters are mild and cool. The lowest temperature recorded was 20°F (-6.7°C) in January.
The area does not get much rain. Most of the rain falls in winter months. Summers are very dry, with almost no rain.
