Paras Khadka (born 24 October 1987) is a famous Nepalese former cricketer. He is now the Secretary of the Cricket Association of Nepal and the President of the Bagmati Province Cricket Association. From 2008 to 2019, he was the captain of the Nepalese cricket team.

Paras Khadka is known as an all-rounder in cricket. This means he is good at both batting and bowling. He bats right-handed and bowls with his right arm, using both medium-fast and off-break styles. He played his first international match in April 2004 against Malaysia. In August 2018, he played in Nepal's very first One Day International (ODI) match against the Netherlands. Many people think he is the greatest cricketer from Nepal.

Under his leadership, Nepal achieved many important wins. They won the 2010 ICC World Cricket League Division Five in Nepal and the 2012 ICC World Cricket League Division Four in Malaysia. They also won the 2012 ACC Trophy Elite in the UAE. His captaincy helped Nepal take part in the 2014 ICC World Twenty20 in Bangladesh. This also helped Nepal gain Twenty20 International status, which was a big step for their cricket.

Paras Khadka made history on 28 January 2019. He became the first Nepalese batsman to score a century (100 runs) in an ODI match. He did this against the United Arab Emirates. Later, on 28 September 2019, he became the first Nepalese batsman to score a century in a T20I match, playing against Singapore.

Cricket Journey

Starting Out in Cricket

Paras Khadka was born in Kathmandu in 1987. He started playing cricket for Nepal at a young age. His first time representing Nepal was at the Under-15 level in December 2002. He played in the Under-15 Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

The next year, he joined the Nepal Under-19s. He played against India Under-19s and in the 2003 Youth Asia Cup. In 2004, he played in his first Under-19 World Cup in Bangladesh. That same year, he made his debut for the senior Nepal team. This was against Malaysia in the 2004 ICC Intercontinental Cup.

Paras continued to play for both the senior and Under-19 teams. In 2005, the Nepal Under-19 team won the 2005 ACC Under-19 Cup in Nepal. This win helped them qualify for the 2006 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Sri Lanka. In that World Cup, Nepal won the plate tournament. They even beat strong teams like New Zealand and South Africa.

He also captained Nepal in the 2008 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Malaysia. Under his leadership, Nepal finished in tenth place.

Leading the Team (2008-2015)

Paras Khadka became the captain of the Nepalese cricket team. He successfully led the country to win the 2010 ICC World Cricket League Division Five.

In May 2012, he went to Canada to play for the Ontario Cricket Academy and Club. He rejoined the club in 2013 as vice-captain. In the 2012 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier, he scored 254 runs.

In 2012, Nepal won the 2012 ACC Trophy Elite title in the UAE. Paras scored 291 runs and took 9 wickets. He also scored his first century against Kuwait in this tournament. He was named the Player of the Tournament. After this, he led Nepal to win the 2012 ICC World Cricket League Division Four in Malaysia.

He was also named the Player of the Tournament in the 2013 ACC Twenty20 Cup. He scored 207 runs in that event. He led Nepal to win the 2013 ICC World Cricket League Division Three in Bermuda. This win helped Nepal qualify for the 2014 Cricket World Cup Qualifier in New Zealand.

Paras also led Nepal to their first World Cup appearance. This was at the 2014 ICC World Twenty20 in Bangladesh. He helped Nepal finish third in the 2013 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier.

At the 2014 ICC World Twenty20 in Bangladesh, he scored 41 runs in matches against Hong Kong and Bangladesh. He made a unique record by taking a wicket with the very first ball of his T20I career. This happened against Hong Kong.

In the 2015 ICC World Cricket League Division Two, he scored 185 runs and took 6 wickets. Nepal qualified for the 2015–17 ICC World Cricket League Championship.

Later Career and Retirement (2018 onwards)

In January 2018, Paras was named captain for the 2018 ICC World Cricket League Division Two tournament. He played important roles in Nepal's victories. In the final match against UAE, he scored an impressive 112 runs.

In July 2018, he was named captain for Nepal's first One Day International (ODI) series against the Netherlands. He made his ODI debut on 1 August 2018.

In the third match of Nepal's tour of the United Arab Emirates, Paras became the first Nepalese batsman to score an ODI century in Dubai. He scored 115 runs and was named Man of the Match.

In September 2019, he scored his first T20I century. He became the first captain in men's T20I cricket to score a century while chasing a target.

On 15 October 2019, Paras Khadka stepped down as captain of the Nepalese national cricket team. He wanted a fresh start for the team after the Cricket Association of Nepal was put back in charge.

Soon after, he was signed by Team Abu Dhabi for the 2019 T10 League. This made him the third Nepalese cricketer to play in a foreign league. He was excited to play against the world's best players.

In November 2019, he was part of Nepal's squad for the cricket tournament at the 2019 South Asian Games. The Nepal team won the bronze medal. In September 2020, he received a central contract from the Cricket Association of Nepal.

Paras Khadka was nominated for the ICC Men's Associate Cricketer of the Decade award in November 2020. On 3 August 2021, he announced his retirement from international cricket.

Life After Playing Cricket

After retiring, Paras Khadka started a cricket academy called Cricket Excellence Center. This academy works to develop young cricket talent in Nepal. It is located in Kathmandu and has excellent facilities for aspiring cricketers.

Khadka also joined Team Gujarat for the Legends League Cricket 2024. This is a T-20 cricket league for recently retired international players.

Cricket Administration Role

Paras Khadka has moved into cricket administration. On August 14, 2023, he was elected as a member of the Kathmandu District Cricket Administration. On September 1, 2023, he became the president of the Bagmati Province Cricket Association of Nepal. Then, on September 23, 2023, he was elected as the secretary of the Cricket Association of Nepal.

Players' Rights

In May 2010, Paras Khadka led 18 national cricket team members in a press conference. They stated they would not play in the national league. This was because they wanted better conditions and support from the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN). He led a similar action again in April 2014, asking for changes in how CAN was run and for better facilities for players.
