Parliament Station is an underground train station in Melbourne, Australia. It's a busy part of Melbourne's train network, helping people travel all over the city. It's one of five stations that make up the special City Loop. This loop goes around the main part of Melbourne, called the city centre.

Parliament Railway Station

Parliament Station has four platforms, spread across two different levels underground. Just like the other underground stations on the City Loop, each level is for trains heading in a specific direction. One level handles trains going to the north and west parts of Melbourne. The other level is for trains heading to the south and east suburbs. This station first opened its doors on January 22 1983.

Why So Many People Use It

Many people who work for the government use Parliament Station. This is because the station is located right underneath the Parliament House of Victoria. This is where important decisions for the state of Victoria are made. The station is also found at the busy meeting point of Bourke Street and Spring Street.

Getting Around the Station

It's easy to get to and from Parliament Station using trams. Several tram routes stop nearby. Trams 86, 95, and 96 run along Bourke Street. Trams 11, 12, 31, 42, 109, and 112 can be found on Collins Street. There's also the free City Circle tram, which is a great way to see the city.

Deep Underground

The lower platforms at Parliament Station are very deep. They are about 38 meters (that's over 120 feet) below the ground! This makes them the lowest platforms in the entire City Loop. When the station first opened, its escalators were the longest in the southern hemisphere. That's a pretty cool fact about this station!
