Patrick Lavon Mahomes (born August 9, 1970) is a former professional baseball pitcher from the United States. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1992 to 2003. During his career, he played for teams like the Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox, and New York Mets. Mahomes also played two seasons in Japan for the Yokohama BayStars. He is the father of Patrick Mahomes II, a famous American football quarterback.

Early Life and High School Sports

Pat Mahomes was born in Texas. He was one of three children. His father worked for an oil company and coached Pat's youth baseball team.

Mahomes went to Lindale High School in Texas. He was a talented athlete, playing baseball, football, and basketball. He was a very competitive person. He was also a good student and a member of the National Honor Society.

Even though he was not very tall in high school, Mahomes earned honors in football as a quarterback. He also scored about 30 points per game in basketball. In baseball, he played shortstop and was a pitcher. He received offers to play all three sports in college. He thought seriously about playing college baseball and joining the basketball team at the University of Arkansas.

Professional Baseball Career

Starting in the Minor Leagues

Pat Mahomes was chosen in the sixth round of the baseball draft in June 1988. He started his professional career that year with the Elizabethton Twins. He began as a starting pitcher. Over the next few years, he moved up through the Minnesota Twins' minor league teams. He reached Triple-A, which is just below the major leagues, in 1991.

Mahomes made his first appearance in Major League Baseball with the Twins in 1992. He started his first game on April 12 against the Texas Rangers. He pitched for six innings. His first major league win came in his next game on April 21.

He played with the Twins until 1996. In five seasons, he played in 114 games, starting 51 of them. He had a record of 18 wins and 28 losses. The Twins traded Mahomes to the Boston Red Sox in August 1996.

Boston Red Sox

Mahomes pitched in 21 games for the Red Sox in 1996 and 1997. All of these games were as a relief pitcher, meaning he came into the game after the starting pitcher. He had a record of 3 wins and 0 losses. The Red Sox released him in June 1997.

Yokohama BayStars (Japan)

Pat also has a third son, Graham Walker, who plays football at Brown University. He also has two daughters, Zoe and Avery. Patrick II uses "Patrick" to avoid confusion with his father, who is sometimes called Pat Mahomes Sr.
