Patrick Lavon Mahomes (born August 9, 1970) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1992 to 2003. During his career, he pitched for several teams, including the Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, and Pittsburgh Pirates. Mahomes also played two seasons in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) in Japan with the Yokohama BayStars. He finished his baseball career in 2009 with the Grand Prairie AirHogs.

Pat Mahomes was born in Texas. He was one of three children in his family. His dad worked for an oil company and coached Pat's youth baseball team. His mom was a nurse until Pat was seven years old.

High School Sports and Achievements

Mahomes went to Lindale High School in Lindale, Texas. He was a talented athlete who played baseball, football, and basketball. He was a very competitive person. His parents said he would get upset after losing a game in high school.

Beyond sports, Pat was also a great student. He was part of the National Honor Society. He had the second-highest grades in his graduating class.

College Choices and Baseball Career

When he was a junior in high school, Mahomes was 5 feet 9 inches tall. Even so, he earned special honors in football as a quarterback. In basketball, he scored about 30 points per game. On the baseball field, he played shortstop and also pitched.

Pat received scholarship offers to play all three sports in college. He thought seriously about playing college baseball and joining the basketball team at the University of Arkansas. But in the end, Mahomes chose to play college baseball at Oklahoma State University. He was chosen as an All-Big Eight Conference pitcher three times during his four years there. After college, he decided to become a professional baseball player.

Pat Mahomes began his professional baseball career after being drafted in 1988. He started as a starting pitcher for the Elizabethton Twins. Over the next few years, he moved up through the Minnesota Twins' minor league teams. By 1991, he reached Triple-A with the Portland Beavers.

Mahomes made his first appearance in Major League Baseball with the Twins in 1992. He joined the team after spring training. His first game was on April 12 against the Texas Rangers. He pitched for six innings in that game. He earned his first MLB win in his next game on April 21 against the Seattle Mariners.

Pat played with the Twins until the 1996 season. He appeared in 114 games for them, starting 51 of those games. He had 18 wins and 28 losses with the Twins. In August 1996, the Twins traded Mahomes to the Red Sox.

Time with the Boston Red Sox

Mahomes played 21 games for the Boston Red Sox in 1996 and 1997. All of these games were as a relief pitcher. He had 3 wins and 0 losses with the Red Sox. The Red Sox released him in June 1997.

Pitching in Japan with Yokohama BayStars

After leaving the Red Sox, Mahomes went to Japan. He signed with the Yokohama BayStars of Nippon Professional Baseball in the middle of the 1997 season. He pitched for them through 1998.

Mahomes began the 2007 season with the Sioux Falls Canaries. In August, the Toronto Blue Jays signed him. He played three games for the Syracuse Chiefs before becoming a free agent. Mahomes signed with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in 2008 but only played two games before returning to Sioux Falls. He split the 2009 season between Sioux Falls and Grand Prairie.

In 2019, Pat Mahomes was honored by being inducted into the Sioux Falls Canaries Hall of Fame.

Pat Mahomes' Family Life

Pat Mahomes has several children. He has two sons, Patrick II and Jackson. Patrick II is a famous quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs football team. Jackson is known as a social media influencer. To avoid confusion, Patrick II is often called "Patrick" while his father is sometimes called "Pat Mahomes Sr."

Pat also has another son, Tyler Mahomes. He has a fourth son, Graham Walker, who plays football at Brown University. Additionally, Pat has two daughters named Zoe and Avery.
