The village of Patoka got its name from a local Native American leader. This name connects the village to the rich history of the land.
Where is Patoka Located?
Patoka is found in the northwestern part of Marion County. It sits at a specific point on the map: 38.753362 degrees north and 89.095524 degrees west.
How to Get to Patoka?
U.S. Route 51 runs along the east side of the village. This highway can take you north about 15 miles (24 km) to Vandalia. Or, you can go south about 10 miles (16 km) to Sandoval. Salem, which is the main town of Marion County, is about 16 miles (26 km) to the southeast.

Who are Some Famous People from Patoka?
Patoka has been home to a few notable individuals:
- Drew Baldridge (born 1991): He is a country music singer. Drew lived in Patoka when he was a child. Later, he moved to Nashville, Tennessee, to start his music career.
- James L. Hull (1873–1928): James Hull was a sailor in the United States Navy. He received the Medal of Honor for his brave actions during the Spanish–American War.
- James Wickersham (1857–1939): James Wickersham served in the United States House of Representatives. He represented Alaska Territory's at-large congressional district for several terms. He also lived in Patoka during his childhood.
