María de la Paz Elizabeth Sofía Adriana de la Huerta y Bruce (born September 3, 1984), known as Paz de la Huerta, is an American actress, model, and painter. She started her career as a model when she was a teenager. Later, she appeared in movies like The Cider House Rules (1999) and A Walk to Remember (2002).

She played a main role in the film Enter the Void (2009). From 2010 to 2011, she was Lucy Danziger in the TV show Boardwalk Empire on HBO. She also starred in the horror film Nurse 3D (2013).

Early Life and Education

Paz de la Huerta was born on September 3, 1984, in New York City. Her father was a Spanish nobleman, and her mother, Judith Bruce, worked to help women. Paz grew up in the SoHo area of Lower Manhattan with her older sister. She was raised Roman Catholic and has said she is "very Catholic."

She went to Saint Ann's School in Brooklyn, New York City, on a scholarship. She also attended a performing arts camp called Buck's Rock. During high school, Paz spent her summers in Spain with her father.

Paz de la Huerta first appeared in a movie in 1998, a romantic comedy called The Object of My Affection. The next year, she was in The Cider House Rules with famous actors Michael Caine and Charlize Theron. In 2002, she acted in A Walk to Remember, a romantic drama based on a book by Nicholas Sparks.

In 2007, Paz was chosen for the role of Linda in the film Enter the Void. The director, Gaspar Noé, liked her because she was very expressive. In 2008, she had a supporting role in the comedy Choke. In 2009, she also appeared in Jim Jarmusch's film The Limits of Control.

Expanding Roles (2010–Present)

In 2010, Paz de la Huerta joined the cast of the HBO show Boardwalk Empire. The show is set in Atlantic City during the Prohibition era. She played Lucy Danziger, who was a former dancer. Boardwalk Empire was very popular and continued for a second season, with Paz returning as Lucy.

She left the show after the second season. In 2013, she mentioned that she would like to return to the series someday.

Paz de la Huerta started painting when she was a child. In July 2024, she showed a collection of fourteen paintings at an art gallery in Paris. The collection was called "El Vallé de Lagrimas," which means "The Valley of Tears" in English. Her paintings are often surreal, meaning they have dream-like qualities, and are inspired by her life and Catholic faith. Her artwork was also shown in Los Angeles in February 2025.

Personal Life

Paz de la Huerta used to live in an apartment on Gay Street in New York City. Later, she moved to an apartment near her mother in the Tribeca neighborhood. She has a tattoo of a cobra on one leg and a crown on her arm. The crown is a way to honor her family's history and Spanish nobility.

Legal Matters

In April 2011, Paz de la Huerta was involved in an incident at a bar. She was arrested and later pleaded guilty to harassment. She was ordered to complete alcohol counseling and community service.

In November 2018, Paz de la Huerta filed a lawsuit related to her experiences in 2010 and the filming of Nurse 3D. She stated that she was hospitalized for over two years after being hit by a vehicle during filming.
