Village History and Life
A Glimpse into the Past: The Domesday Book
Pebmarsh has a long history! A special plaque on the village church tells us that Pebmarsh was mentioned in the Domesday Book. This book was like a giant survey of England, ordered by William the Conqueror way back in 1086. It helped him understand who owned what and how much it was worth.
Schools and Community Spaces
The village is home to St. John the Baptist C of E Primary School. There has been a school in Pebmarsh since the late 1700s! The main part of the current school opened in 1967. It welcomes students from Pebmarsh and nearby villages like Lamarsh and Alphamstone.
Pebmarsh also has a large village hall. This hall was built recently to replace an older one. It's a great place for village events and gatherings.
Fun for Kids: Parks and Play
For younger residents and visitors, there's a children's park. You can also find a small skate park with three ramps, perfect for skateboarding or scootering!
The King's Head Pub: A Community Story
The local pub, The King's Head, is very special because it's owned by the community! Over 320 local people became shareholders and raised £350,000 to buy it. This happened after the previous owners retired. The villagers wanted to make sure their pub, which is a big part of village life, stayed open for everyone to enjoy.
