Colne Engaine is a charming village in Essex, England. It's located just north of the River Colne. You can find it about ten miles northwest of Colchester. The village gets its name from two things. First, the River Colne, where early settlers likely lived. Second, the Engaine family, who were important in the village from 1279 to 1367.

Long ago, the village was known as Little Colne. In 1086, it was recorded as Parva Colun in the Domesday Book. This book was like a big survey of England. It said Colne Engaine had 38 people, two mills, and 13 goats!
Colne Engaine is one of four villages named after the River Colne. The others are Earls Colne, Wakes Colne, and White Colne. People have found signs of ancient Roman settlements here. These were discovered near the Church and at Knight's Farm.
