Penruddock is a small village in Cumbria, England. It's about 5.5 miles (9 km) west of Penrith. The village is part of the larger area called Hutton.
History of Penruddock
The name Penruddock comes from an old language called Cumbric. This language was once spoken in this part of England. The name probably means 'Red Hill'. This is because there's a lot of red soil and red sandstone nearby. The word Pen means hill, and rhudd means red. Interestingly, the nearby town of Penrith might also have a similar name meaning 'Red Hill'.
The village of Penruddock sits on top of limestone. You can see this rock in many places. There are rocky areas and flat limestone surfaces on the eastern side. You can also find the remains of an old lime kiln here. A lime kiln was used to heat limestone to make lime, which was used in building. The soil over the limestone is a heavy clay. This soil holds water well, which helps plants grow even when it's dry. But it can also make the ground very wet during winter.
How Penruddock is Governed

Neil Hudson is the current MP for this area. He was elected in 2019. Before him, the MP was Rory Stewart.
