Phillip R. Bogle (born September 27, 1979) is a former American football player. He played as a guard, which is a position on the offensive line that helps block for the quarterback and running backs. Phil also worked as an assistant head coach and general manager for the Philadelphia Soul in the Arena Football League (AFL).

He started his professional career in 2003 with the San Diego Chargers. He was signed as an undrafted free agent, meaning he wasn't chosen in the main NFL draft but was still picked up by a team. Before that, he played college football at the University of New Haven. Bogle also played for several other teams, including the Cleveland Browns, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Montreal Alouettes, Dallas Vigilantes, and Florida Tuskers.

Early Life and High School Football

Phil Bogle grew up in Spring Valley, New York. He went to Spring Valley High School. While there, he was a star football player. He was chosen for All-State, All-Section, and All-League teams.

Phil was the fourth person from his high school to make it to the NFL. Some other famous players from Spring Valley High School include Seth Joyner and John Harvey.

College Football Career

From 1999 to 2002, Phil Bogle played college football at the University of New Haven. He was an offensive tackle and started every game during his time there. An offensive tackle is another position on the offensive line.

Phil was a team captain for his last two seasons. In 2002, he was named a First-team All-Independent player in NCAA Division II. He also won the Jim Langer Award that year. He was even named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2002 Cactus Bowl game. In 2003, he was recognized as the New Haven Male Athlete of the Year.

Professional Football Journey

Playing for the San Diego Chargers

After college, Phil Bogle was not chosen in the 2003 NFL draft. However, the San Diego Chargers signed him as an undrafted free agent in April 2003. During his first year, he played both guard and tackle. He started 13 of the 16 games he played in.

In 2004, Phil faced a knee injury. He was released by the Chargers but later re-signed to their practice squad. A practice squad is a group of players who train with the team but are not on the main roster. He was later moved back to the main team but was released again in October 2004.

Time with Other NFL Teams

After leaving the Chargers, Phil Bogle signed with the Cleveland Browns in February 2005. However, he was released by the team a few months later.

He then joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in August 2005. He was released and then re-signed by them in January 2006. During this time, he also played for the Hamburg Sea Devils in NFL Europa, a league in Europe. He started all 10 games for the Sea Devils in 2006. The Buccaneers released him again in July 2006.

Success with the Philadelphia Soul

In October 2006, Phil Bogle joined the Philadelphia Soul in the Arena Football League. This is where he really shined!

In his first season in 2007, he started all 16 regular season games and two playoff games. He was the first player from the Soul to be named to both the All-Rookie Team and the First-team All-Arena in the same year.

In 2008, he was again named First-team All-Arena. He was also a finalist for the league's Lineman of the Year award. He played in 16 regular season games and three playoff games, helping the Soul win ArenaBowl XXII, which is like their championship game. As an "eligible-receiver lineman," he even caught seven passes for 60 yards and six touchdowns!

Later Playing Career

After his successful time with the Soul, Phil briefly returned to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in August 2008. He was signed to help their offensive line but was released shortly after.

He then returned to the Philadelphia Soul in September 2008. In 2009, he signed with the Montreal Alouettes in the Canadian Football League (CFL) but was released in June. He later played for the Dallas Vigilantes in 2010 and the Florida Tuskers in 2010.

Life After Playing Football

After his playing career, Phil Bogle continued to be involved with the Philadelphia Soul. He worked as an assistant head coach and general manager for the team. This means he helped coach the players and also helped manage the team's operations.
