Phillip Dennis Ivey Jr. (born February 1, 1977) is a famous American professional poker player. He has won many big poker tournaments, including eleven World Series of Poker bracelets. Many people who follow poker think he is one of the best players ever. In 2017, he was added to the Poker Hall of Fame, which is a special honor for poker legends.
Early Life and Poker Start
Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, California, in 1977. He moved to Roselle, New Jersey, when he was just three months old. He learned to play poker as a child from his grandfather. They played a game called five-card stud.
As a teenager, Ivey used a fake ID to play poker in Atlantic City, New Jersey. This is how he got one of his nicknames, "No Home Jerome". Later, he was also called "The Phenom" because of his amazing poker skills. Another famous nickname for him is "the Tiger Woods of Poker". This shows how good he is, like Tiger Woods in golf.

World Series of Poker Achievements
Ivey's first big win at the WSOP was in 2000. He won a Pot Limit Omaha event, earning his first champion's bracelet. He was the first player to beat the legendary Amarillo Slim in a heads-up match at a WSOP final table.
In 2002, Ivey won three bracelets in one year. This tied a record for the most WSOP wins in a single year. He won another Pot Limit Omaha event in 2005.
Ivey continued his winning streak in 2009. He won his sixth bracelet in a special lowball game. He then won his seventh bracelet in a mixed game event. His eighth bracelet came in 2010 in a H.O.R.S.E. event. In 2024, Ivey won his 11th bracelet in a Triple Draw Championship.
Phil Ivey has done very well in the WSOP Main Event, too. He finished among the top 25 players four times between 2002 and 2009. His best finish was 7th place in 2009, where he won over $1.4 million.
Ivey currently has the second-highest number of WSOP bracelets ever, with 11. Only Phil Hellmuth Jr. has more. Ivey was also the youngest player to win ten bracelets, achieving it at age 38. He won his tenth bracelet faster than any other player, in just 14 years. All of his 11 bracelets are from non-Hold'em poker games, which is a record. He also holds the record for most mixed-game bracelets, with five wins.

World Poker Tour Success
Ivey has also done very well on the World Poker Tour (WPT). He reached many final tables. In February 2008, he won his first WPT title at the LA Poker Classic. He took home a huge prize of $1,596,100. This win ended his streak of seven WPT final tables without a victory. Overall, Ivey has won over $4 million in WPT events.
He also played in the European Poker Tour (EPT) in 2006. He made it to the final table but finished second.

Other Big Tournaments
In 2005, Ivey won the $1,000,000 first prize at the Monte Carlo Millions tournament. The very next day, he won another $600,000 at "The FullTiltPoker.Net Invitational".
He also appeared on TV shows like Poker After Dark and High Stakes Poker. In 2007, he won the "Earphones Please" tournament on Poker After Dark. He also played in the "National Heads-Up Poker Championship".
Ivey has had great success at the Aussie Millions tournaments. In 2012, he won the A$250,000 High-roller event for A$2,000,000. In 2014, he won the same event again for AU$4,000,000, his biggest win ever. He won it a third time in 2015 for AU$2,205,000.
As of 2023, Phil Ivey's total winnings from live poker tournaments are over $38.3 million. He has won at least $1 million in 11 different live poker events. Over $9.2 million of his winnings come from the WSOP. He is currently ranked 11th on the list of all-time poker money winners.
High Stakes Cash Games
Phil Ivey is also famous for playing in very high-stakes cash games. These are games where players bet real money directly, not in a tournament format. He often plays in "the Big Game" at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.
In 2006, Ivey played against a billionaire named Andrew Beal. The bets were huge, sometimes $50,000 or $100,000 per hand. Ivey won over $16 million from Beal in just three days. He was playing as part of a group of poker pros called "The Corporation".
Online Poker
Phil Ivey was involved in the design of Full Tilt Poker, a popular online poker site. He played a lot on Full Tilt Poker and won a lot of money. According to reports, he won millions of dollars each year from 2007 to 2010 playing online.

Personal Life
Phil Ivey lives in Las Vegas. He was married to Luciaetta Ivey for seven years. They divorced in December 2009.
Outside of poker, Ivey enjoys other hobbies. He is a big fan of basketball teams like the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets. He also enjoys sports betting, making fun side bets, and playing golf. He even played in the first World Series of Golf.
Ivey is also known for his charity work. In 2008, he gave $50,000 to Empowered 2 Excel, a charity for kids in Las Vegas. He also started the Budding Ivey Foundation to continue his grandfather's work. This foundation helps with children's reading programs and feeding people who are homeless. In 2010, he worked with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. He brought three children to a casino in Las Vegas and let them play games with him.
Phil Ivey has also started two companies related to poker. Ivey Poker, launched in 2012, was a free poker app. It let users play against Ivey and other pros. Ivey League was a poker training website that started in 2014.
