Philip is a small city in South Dakota, United States. It is the main town, or county seat, of Haakon County. In 2020, about 759 people lived there.

History of Philip
Philip was founded in 1907. This happened when a railway company, the Chicago and North Western Railway, built its tracks to this spot. The town officially became a city in 1908.
In 1914, Philip was chosen to be the county seat for the new Haakon County. The city was named after a man called James "Scotty" Philip. He was a famous rancher. The local high school even honors him by having a Scotch terrier as their mascot, which they call "Scottie."

Philip is a city that covers about 0.60 square miles (1.54 square kilometers) of land. It is located right next to the Bad River. This river eventually flows into the much larger Missouri River near a place called Fort Pierre.

Philip has a type of weather called a cool semi-arid climate. This means it's generally dry, and winters are cold. Even in winter, warm winds called chinook winds can sometimes make temperatures rise above 50°F (10°C).
Spring brings warmer weather and more thunderstorms, making it the wettest time of year. Summers can be very hot and dry. For example, the temperature once reached 116°F (47°C) on July 15, 2006.
