Piotr Paweł Żyła is a famous Polish ski jumper. He was born on January 16, 1987. Piotr is a key member of the Polish national ski jumping team. He has won many important medals, including two gold medals at the World Championships in 2021 and 2023. He also has several bronze medals from World Championships and Ski Flying World Championships.

Piotr Żyła once held the Polish record for the longest ski flight. In 2017, he jumped an amazing 245.5 meters at the Vikersund hill. This shows how far he can fly on skis!

About Piotr Żyła

Piotr Żyła was born in Cieszyn, a town in Poland. He went to a special Sports Championships School in Zakopane. A well-known ski jumper, Kamil Stoch, was one of his classmates there. Piotr has two children: a son named Jakub, who is also learning to ski jump, and a daughter named Karolina.

Piotr's Ski Jumping Journey

Piotr Żyła started ski jumping when he was eight years old. It takes a lot of practice and courage to become a professional ski jumper!

Early Career (2004-2007)

Piotr first competed in the Continental Cup in 2004. He earned his first points in this competition in 2005. Later that year, he made his debut in the World Cup, which is the highest level of ski jumping. He even scored points in his very first World Cup event!

In 2007, Piotr competed in the World Championships. The Polish team, including Piotr, finished 5th in the team competition.

Making Progress (2010-2012)

After some years of hard work, Piotr's results started to get better. In 2011, he stood on the podium in a team competition in Willingen. He also did well at the World Championships, finishing 19th and 21st in individual events.

In 2011, Piotr joined the main Polish team. He even won a bronze medal at the Polish Championship in September 2011.

First Big Wins (2012-2013)

On December 4, 2011, Piotr finished in the top 10 for the first time in a World Cup event. This was a big step for him!

In 2013, he achieved a huge milestone. He won his first World Cup competition in Oslo. This made him only the fifth Polish ski jumper in history to win a World Cup event. A week later, he also finished third in a ski flying competition in Planica.

At the 2013 World Championships, Piotr and his teammates Kamil Stoch, Maciej Kot, and Dawid Kubacki won a bronze medal in the team competition.

More Medals (2014-2017)

Piotr continued to perform well. At the 2015 World Championships in Falun, he won another bronze medal with the Polish team. This was his second team bronze medal at the World Championships.

The 2016-2017 season was very successful for Piotr.

  • On December 3, 2016, the Polish team, including Piotr, won their first-ever team competition in World Cup history!
  • Piotr finished second overall in the famous 2016–17 Four Hills Tournament.
  • On March 4, 2017, the Polish team, with Piotr, made history again. They won Poland's first-ever World Champions title in the team event at the 2017 World Championships in Lahti, Finland.

Olympic Games Participation

Piotr Żyła has represented Poland at the Winter Olympics. He competed in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. He also participated in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Zhangjiakou.
