History of Plainview
Plainview grew into a strong community thanks to people working together. In the 1920s, a school was built with help from volunteers. Later, in the mid-20th century, the school closed. Residents then turned the building into a community center. This happened after the Union County Board of Education gave the building to the Plainview Community Club.
In 1981, a nearby city called Luttrell wanted to take over Plainview. This process is called annexation. People in Plainview formed a group to fight this. They filed a lawsuit against Luttrell. The court decided in favor of Plainview. This stopped Luttrell from taking over the community. However, the court said Plainview had to become an official city. This is called incorporation. Plainview became a city in 1992. Since then, the city government has improved many things. They have paved streets, put up street lights, and set up rules for building. They also offer a place for recycling and have built a walking trail.
