History of Priestdale

The name "Priest's Gully" was first used in the early 1860s during land surveys. No one is quite sure where the name came from.

In 1912, there was a large farm called Priestdale. It covered about 1,861 acres. Later, in 1916, a new area called Priestdale Lagoons was divided into 50 smaller farms. These farms were advertised as great for growing fruits like pineapples, bananas, pawpaw, and custard apples.

On March 31, 1979, the area was officially named "Priestdale" by the Queensland Place Names Board. It became a suburb on August 31, 1991.

In 1992, the Chung Tian Temple was built in Priestdale. Its name means Middle Heaven. This temple was designed in a traditional Chinese Buddhist style. Its location was chosen because of the beautiful natural bushland around it.
