The title of Prince of Condé was a special title used in France when it was a monarchy. This was before 1793, when France became a republic. The person who held this title was a very important member of the extended royal family. They were known as a prince of the blood. This meant they were closely related to the King.
The Prince of Condé also held the high rank of First Prince of the blood. This made them one of the most important princes, right after the King's direct family. The heir to the title was often called the Duke of Bourbon or the Duke of Enghien. Only males could inherit this title. Women were not allowed to become Prince of Condé. This important title existed for nearly 200 years.
Over time, the Princes of Condé often married into other rich and powerful French noble families. They also married princesses from other royal families in Europe. This helped them gain more power and wealth. The Princes of Condé belonged to the French House of Bourbon, which was the ruling family of France.
