The main railway line, called the Great Northern railway, runs through Queenton. You can find the Charters Towers railway station right here. This railway line helps form some of the suburb's edges.

The Flinders Highway also runs along part of Queenton's eastern side. The land in Queenton is mostly flat, sitting about 300 metres above sea level. It has homes, some old mine areas, and natural bushland.

A Look Back at Queenton's History

Queenton has a rich history. The Pioneer Cemetery, where many early settlers were buried, was used from 1872 to 1895. Over 5,000 people found their final resting place there.

A school called Queenton State School opened its doors on July 13, 1891. It taught students for many years before closing on September 1, 1931.

Later, a special hospital for mental health, called Charters Towers Mental Hospital, opened in 1954. It was named after Hugh Mosman, who discovered gold in Charters Towers. This hospital helped many people until it closed around 2001. Now, a new health facility and a housing area are on that same site.

In 1966, the Tors Drive-In Cinema opened, offering outdoor movie fun.

A small part of Queenton became part of the new suburb of Charters Towers City on August 3, 2012.
