Radmila Šekerinska Jankovska (born on June 10, 1972) is a well-known politician from North Macedonia. Since December 2024, she has been serving as the Deputy Secretary General of NATO. Before this important role, she was the defense minister for North Macedonia. She also used to lead a political party called the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM).
Radmila Šekerinska has held several key positions in her country. She was a Deputy Prime Minister, focusing on how North Macedonia could work more closely with Europe. She even served as the acting Prime Minister of North Macedonia for short periods in 2004. She was the first woman to be an acting prime minister in North Macedonia's history.

Early Life and Education
Radmila Šekerinska studied at the University of Skopje. She earned her first degree in Power Engineering in 1995. Later, in 2007, she continued her studies abroad. She received a Master's Degree from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.
Her Political Journey
Radmila Šekerinska started her political career early. In 1996, she won a seat on the Skopje City Council. This was her first step into public service.
Becoming a Member of Parliament
In 1998, she was elected to the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia. This is like being a member of parliament. She became a deputy leader of the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM) party. She was also part of the presidency of the Party of European Socialists.
Key Government Roles
From 1997 to 2002, Radmila Šekerinska also worked as an assistant at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Skopje. After being re-elected as an MP in 2002, she became the Vice Premier. In this role, she was in charge of European integration for North Macedonia.
In 2004, she helped with Branko Crvenkovski's successful campaign to become president. After he became president, she served as acting prime minister for a few weeks. She was then reappointed as deputy prime minister in the government of Hari Kostov.
Working for European Integration
As Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs, Radmila Šekerinska played a big part in North Macedonia's journey towards the European Union. In December 2005, the European Council decided that North Macedonia could become a candidate country to join the EU. This was a major step for the country.

Defense Minister and NATO Role
From 2017 to 2022, Radmila Šekerinska served as the Minister of Defense for North Macedonia. In this role, she worked to strengthen her country's defense. For example, in May 2018, she met with U.S. Defense Secretary James Mattis at the Pentagon. They talked about the defense relationship between North Macedonia and the United States. They also discussed North Macedonia's goal to spend 2% of its money on defense.
In October 2022, she was chosen as one of the vice-presidents of the Party of European Socialists. Most recently, in November 2024, Mark Rutte, the Secretary General of NATO, appointed her as the Deputy Secretary General of NATO. She officially started this important international role on December 2, 2024.
Recognition
Radmila Šekerinska has received special honors for her work. She won the "Global Leaders of Tomorrow" Prize. This award is given out by the World Economic Forum.
