Radmila Šekerinska Jankovska (Macedonian: Радмила Шекеринска Јанковска; born 10 June 1972) is a politician from North Macedonia. She has been serving as the Deputy Secretary General of NATO since November 2024. Before this, she was the Minister of Defense for North Macedonia. She also used to lead the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM).
Ms. Šekerinska was also a Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration. She even served as the acting Prime Minister of North Macedonia for short periods in 2004. She was the first woman to be an acting prime minister of North Macedonia. During her time as Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs, North Macedonia became a candidate country to join the European Union in December 2005.
Education and Early Life
Radmila Šekerinska has a Master's Degree from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, which she earned in 2007. She also graduated in 1995 from Skopje's Faculty of Electrical Engineering. There, she studied Power Engineering.
Political Journey
Ms. Šekerinska started her political journey with the Open Society Institute. In 1996, she won a seat on the Skopje City Council. She held this position until 1998, when she was elected to the Macedonian parliament. Later, she became the deputy leader of the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM). She is also a member of the leadership team for the Party of European Socialists.
From 1997 to 2002, Ms. Šekerinska worked as an assistant at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Skopje. In 1998, she was elected as a member of the Assembly of North Macedonia. She was also a deputy leader for her party's group in parliament and served on several important committees.
In 2002, she was elected as a Member of Parliament again. She was then made Vice Premier of North Macedonia, in charge of European integration.
In 2004, Ms. Šekerinska was a spokesperson for Branko Crvenkovski's successful campaign to become president. After he became president, she served as acting prime minister for three weeks. She was later reappointed as deputy prime minister in the government of Hari Kostov in June 2004.
Ms. Šekerinska has also written several scientific and expert papers.

On May 1, 2018, Ms. Šekerinska met with U.S. Defence Secretary James Mattis at The Pentagon. They talked about the defense relationship between North Macedonia and the United States. They also discussed the naming dispute between Macedonia and Greece. This dispute had prevented North Macedonia from joining the EU and NATO. They also talked about North Macedonia's goal to spend 2% of its national income on defense.
On October 15, 2022, she was chosen as one of the vice-presidents of the Party of European Socialists. On November 19, 2024, Mark Rutte, the Secretary General of NATO, appointed Ms. Šekerinska as his Deputy Secretary General.
Awards and Recognition
Radmila Šekerinska won the "Global Leaders of Tomorrow" Prize. This award is given by the World Economic Forum.
