The Story of Ramly
The company was officially started in 1984 by Ramly bin Mokni. His goal was to create a Western-style fast-food brand in Malaysia that was clean, high-quality, and halal (meaning it follows Islamic rules for preparing food).
The idea began in 1979. Ramly and his wife started selling hamburgers from a small street stall. At the time, Ramly worked as a butcher and noticed that it was hard to know if fresh meat was truly halal. This inspired him to create his own company to provide a trusted source of halal meat for everyone in Malaysia.
Growing Bigger
Ramly became very successful. In 2015, the company invested about 1 billion Malaysian Ringgit to build a huge new factory in Selangor. This big step helped the company grow even more.
Today, Ramly sells its products in many countries, including Indonesia, Brunei, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Bangladesh. The company also has plans to expand into other parts of Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and East Asia.
Ramly's Famous Foods
Besides making frozen foods like nuggets and sausages, Ramly is most famous for its street stalls. These stalls have been selling the Ramly Burger all over Malaysia since 1979. It's estimated there are over 25,000 Ramly Burger stalls across the country!
What is a Ramly Burger?
A Ramly Burger is special because of how it's made. The meat patty is cooked and then wrapped in a thin omelette. It's then covered with different sauces. These can include ketchup, mayonnaise, chili sauce, and other seasonings, depending on the seller.
The name "Ramly Burger" has become so popular that people sometimes use it to describe any burger made in this style, even if it doesn't use a real Ramly patty. It is a favorite snack for many people in Malaysia, especially in the cities.
Ramly Burgers in Singapore
The official Ramly meat patties are not allowed to be sold in Singapore. This is because the meat comes from places not on Singapore's approved list for food imports. However, many street vendors in Singapore still make burgers in the Ramly style and sometimes even use the Ramly brand wrapper.
