Ramsey is a city in Minnesota, United States. It is located about 22 miles (35 km) northwest of downtown Minneapolis. Ramsey is part of Anoka County and is considered a suburb of the Twin Cities.
Major roads like U.S. Highways 10 and 169 pass through Ramsey. There is also a train station for the Northstar Commuter Rail line, which connects to downtown Minneapolis. In 2020, about 27,646 people lived in Ramsey.

Ramsey's Early Days and Growth
The first people to settle in the area that is now Ramsey were Thomas A. Holmes and James Beatty. They built a trading post in 1849. A small village called Itasca Village was planned in 1852. This village had the first post office in Anoka County. It also had a station on the Northern Pacific Railroad.
Itasca Village was later abandoned. In 1857, the first local government area, called a township, was created. It was first named Watertown, then Dover, and finally Ramsey. The city of Ramsey was officially formed on November 12, 1976. At that time, about 8,000 people lived there.
