Rashad Dion McCants (born September 25, 1984) is an American former professional basketball player. He played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and also for teams overseas. Rashad played college basketball for the North Carolina Tar Heels. He helped his team win a national championship during his junior year.

High School Basketball Journey
Rashad McCants started his high school basketball career at Clyde A. Erwin High School in Asheville, North Carolina. He then moved to and finished at New Hampton School in New Hampton, New Hampshire. In 2002, he led New Hampton to win the New England Prep School Class A championship. He was also named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of that championship game. During his senior year, McCants played alongside Wes Miller, who would later be his college teammate.
Awards and Recognition
McCants was a great student and made the honor roll at New Hampton. He won the New Hampshire Player of the Year Award in both 2001 and 2002. As a senior, he was chosen for the Parade All-American and McDonald's All-American Teams. He played in the McDonald's All-American Game with future Tar Heel teammates Raymond Felton and Sean May.

College Basketball Career
For the 2002–2003 season, McCants joined a very talented group of players at UNC. This group included Sean May, Raymond Felton, and David Noel. Their coach was Matt Doherty.
Freshman Year Success
In his first year, McCants was the top scorer for the Tar Heels. He averaged 17.5 points per game. He helped lead his team to the third round of the National Invitational Tournament. He was also chosen for the All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) rookie team.
Sophomore Year Highlights
During the 2003–2004 season, McCants led the ACC in scoring. He averaged 20 points per game. His efforts helped UNC return to the NCAA Tournament. They were a sixth seed but lost in the second round to Texas. As a sophomore, he was named to the All-ACC First Team and was a third-team All-American.
Winning a National Championship
In the 2004–2005 season, a new player, Marvin Williams, joined the team. With McCants, May, and Felton, the team was highly ranked. Many thought they would win the NCAA Tournament. UNC finished the season with a 33–4 record and won the ACC regular season. McCants scored 16.4 points per game. UNC earned a number one seed in the NCAA Tournament. They made it to the championship game and defeated the Illinois Fighting Illini 75–70.
College Career Summary
McCants played three years at Chapel Hill. He scored a total of 1,721 points. He also made 221 three-pointers during his time at North Carolina.
Professional Basketball Career
After winning the championship, McCants decided to enter the 2005 NBA draft. He was picked 14th overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves. His college teammates, Marvin Williams, Raymond Felton, and Sean May, were also drafted that year.
Early NBA Years
In his first two years as a professional player, McCants faced some injuries. He didn't play as much as fans expected. However, he had high hopes for the 2007–08 season. He started as a regular player in the Timberwolves' rotation. Halfway through the season, he became a starter.
By January 2008, Rashad had achieved new personal bests. He scored 34 points against the Denver Nuggets on January 4, 2008. He also had 8 rebounds against the Miami Heat and 4 steals against the Seattle SuperSonics. On December 26, 2008, he made a career-high 7 three-pointers in a win against the New York Knicks.
Moving Teams
On February 19, 2009, McCants was traded to the Sacramento Kings. He went with Calvin Booth in exchange for Shelden Williams and Bobby Brown. In September 2009, McCants signed with the Houston Rockets. However, his contract was canceled after two days because of an abdomen problem.
In the summer of 2010, he was supposed to join the Cleveland Cavaliers' NBA Summer League team. But he did not report for personal reasons. In October 2010, the Dallas Mavericks signed McCants to their training camp roster. He was released a few days later. He then joined the Texas Legends, a team in the NBA Development League.
Playing Overseas
In 2012, the Powerade Tigers in the Philippines signed him. He played for them but was released after two games. On July 13, 2012, McCants signed with the French club Strasbourg IG. He left the team before playing a game. On November 19, 2012, he signed with the Foshan Long Lions in China. He was waived by Foshan in January 2013.
On January 24, 2013, McCants returned to the Texas Legends. He was waived by the Legends in February 2013. In November 2013, he joined the Brazilian club Uberlândia Tênis Clube. He played his first game on January 5, 2014. On November 23, 2014, McCants signed with Homenetmen Beirut in Lebanon. In April 2015, he signed with Trotamundos de Carabobo in Venezuela.
BIG3 League Success
On April 30, 2017, McCants was chosen as the very first pick in the 2017 BIG3 Draft by Trilogy. The BIG3 is a professional 3-on-3 basketball league. On August 26, 2017, Trilogy won the first-ever Big3 League Championship. McCants scored 22 points in the game and was named the Championship MVP.
Personal Life and Family
Rashad McCants has a sister named Rashanda McCants. She also played basketball for North Carolina and in the WNBA.
Rashad is the cousin of Major League Baseball player Cameron Maybin. He is also a third cousin of former Canadian Football League player John Avery.
In June 2008, McCants dated a reality television star. He made a brief appearance on her reality show, Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
