Raven Lake is a freshwater lake located in Canada. It sits right on the border between two Canadian provinces: Quebec and Ontario.

On the Quebec side, the lake is in Rouyn-Noranda, specifically in the Montbeillard area. On the Ontario side, it's in the District of Timiskaming. The provincial border actually runs through the northeastern part of the lake.

The main activities around Raven Lake are forestry, which means managing forests for wood, and tourism. Many people visit the lake for fun and relaxation. There are resorts and places to stay, especially on the north shore and in a bay on the southeast side. A major road, Route 117, runs along the north side of the lake, making it easy to access.

Because it's in Canada, Raven Lake freezes over during the colder months. The lake surface is usually frozen from mid-November until late April. However, it's generally safe to walk or play on the ice from mid-December to mid-April.

About Raven Lake

Raven Lake is shaped a bit like a large "V" that opens towards the southeast. It even has a special part called Hannigan Bay on its northwest shore.

Where is Raven Lake?

The lake is connected to many other bodies of water and rivers. Here are some of the main areas around Raven Lake:

The water from Raven Lake flows out into the Larder River. This river then travels about 51.0 kilometres (31.7 mi) before joining the Blanche River (Lake Timiskaming). The Blanche River then flows southeast into Lake Timiskaming, which also sits on the border between Ontario and Quebec.

What's in a Name?

The name "Raven" comes from an English family name. The official name "Lac Raven" was formally recognized on December 5, 1968, by the Commission de toponymie du Québec. This commission is responsible for naming places in Quebec.
