Redhill's Past: A Brief History
Historians believe Redhill got its name from the red, clay-like soil found on the hill in the area. A main road, now called Mansfield Road (part of the A60), runs through Redhill. This road leads north out of Nottingham.
Long ago, before the 1800s, Redhill was thought to be the southern edge of Sherwood Forest. If travelers wanted to go safely through the forest to Mansfield, they could hire a guide. The 'Guide House', where guides could be found, used to stand on Mansfield Road. It was located north of Roscoe Avenue, but it is no longer there.
