Reginald L. Love (born April 29, 1981) is an American who used to be a personal helper to President Barack Obama. He also played college football and basketball. Reggie was known as President Obama's "body man." This means he was a special assistant who helped the President with many daily tasks. Reggie left his job in 2011 to go back to school. He studied for a business degree at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School. Later, in 2015, he started working as an editor for a sports website called Vice Sports.
Early Life and College Sports
Reggie Love went to high school at Providence Day School in Charlotte, North Carolina. After high school, he went to Duke University. He earned a degree in political science and public policy.
While at Duke, Reggie was a talented athlete. He played two sports: football and basketball. He played wide receiver for the Duke Blue Devils football team on a football scholarship.
Reggie also played forward for the Duke Blue Devils basketball team. He started as a "walk-on" player, which means he joined the team without a scholarship at first. By his senior year, he became a team captain. He was part of the amazing 2001 team that won the NCAA national championship!
Working with President Obama
In 2006, Reggie applied for an internship on Capitol Hill, which is where the U.S. Congress works. He was interviewed for a job in Barack Obama's Senate office. Reggie eventually became a deputy political director for Obama's Senate campaign.
In 2007, during the 2008 presidential campaign, Reggie became Obama's personal assistant. His main job was to make sure Obama had everything he needed. President Obama even joked that Reggie was like his "iReggie," saying, "I have an iReggie, who has my books, my newspapers, my music all in one place."
Reggie and Obama often played basketball together. They played every day there was a primary election during the 2008 presidential campaign. They continued to play regularly in the years that followed, always on the same team. To celebrate Obama's 50th birthday, Reggie and Obama's friends organized a special basketball game. It was played on the White House basketball court. Famous NBA players like LeBron James, Magic Johnson, and Chris Paul joined the game. President Obama has described Reggie as being like his "little brother."
After the White House
Reggie Love left the White House Office in 2012 to finish his business degree at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. After he graduated, he became a partner and vice president for a company called RON Transatlantic Holdings.
Reggie also wrote a book about his time working for President Obama. The book is called Power Forward: My Presidential Education. It was released in February 2015. In July 2015, Reggie also started working as an editor for Vice Sports, a sports website.
