Richard Kind, born on November 22, 1956, is a well-known American actor and comedian. You might know him from TV shows like Mad About You, where he played Dr. Mark Devanow, or Spin City, where he was Paul Lassiter. He also appeared in Curb Your Enthusiasm as Andy and more recently as Vince Fish in Only Murders in the Building.
Richard Kind has also been in many movies, including Stargate, A Serious Man, and Argo. He is currently the announcer for the Netflix talk show Everybody's Live with John Mulaney.
Kind is also famous for his voice work in Pixar films. He voiced Molt in A Bug's Life, Van in the Cars movies, Bookworm in Toy Story 3, and Bing Bong in Inside Out. He also voices Al Tuttle in American Dad and Marty Glouberman in Big Mouth. He was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play for his role in the 2013 Broadway play The Big Knife.

Early Life and Education
Richard Kind was born in Trenton, New Jersey. His mother, Alice, was a homemaker, and his father, Samuel Kind, was a jeweler. His family has roots in Russia.
When Richard was in fourth grade, his family moved to Yardley, Pennsylvania. He grew up there with his younger sister, Joanne. He went to Pennsbury High School and graduated in 1974. In 1978, he earned his degree from Northwestern University. He also studied at The Second City in Chicago, which is famous for comedy.

Television Roles
Kind was part of the cast in Carol Burnett’s variety show, Carol & Company, from 1990 to 1991. He then became well-known for playing Dr. Mark Devanow on Mad About You from 1992 to 1999. He also played Paul Lassiter on Spin City from 1996 to 2002. Richard Kind and Michael Boatman were the only actors who appeared in every episode of Spin City. Kind returned to his role in the 2019 revival of Mad About You.
He appeared in eight episodes of Larry David's show Curb Your Enthusiasm as Larry's cousin Andy. In 2006, he was a guest star in Stargate Atlantis, playing Lucius Lavin.

Kind had a recurring role in Scrubs as Harvey Corman, a character who worried a lot about his health. He also played Hugo, an astronomer, in the crime comedy Psych. In Law & Order: Criminal Intent, he played a wealthy person who committed a crime to protect his money.
He was a guest star on the Disney Channel series Even Stevens as the grumpy Uncle Chuck. Kind also appeared in an episode of Two and a Half Men with his former Spin City co-star Charlie Sheen. In 2010, he played a corrupt mayor in the show Leverage. He also appeared in the Netflix series Disjointed.
In 2015, he played a GED instructor on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. He also played Mayor Aubrey James in the TV series Gotham. In 2022, Kind starred as police captain Stan Yenko on the CBS crime drama East New York. In 2023, he played Saint Peter in Mel Brooks' History of the World, Part II.

Kind had a small role as Gary Meyers in the 1994 movie Stargate. He also appeared in the film National Lampoon's Bag Boy in 2007. Kind played David's father in the Prime series "Red Oaks".
In 2007, Kind had a short role in the independent film The Visitor. He starred in the independent comedy The Understudy in 2008. Kind played Arthur Gopnik in the Coen brothers' film A Serious Man. He also had a small role in Clint Eastwood's Hereafter in 2010.
Actor and director George Clooney is a close friend of Richard Kind. Kind played a casting director in Clooney's first movie as a director, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. In 2001 and 2002, he voiced Pongo in the animated series Oswald. He had a recurring role on the Disney Channel series Kim Possible as the villain Frugal Lucre. He was also Roger the Alligator in The Penguins of Madagascar. Kind voiced Riley's imaginary friend Bing Bong in Pixar's Inside Out. He voices Harvey Timbers in Welcome to the Wayne. In 2021, he voiced the Doopler on Star Trek: Lower Decks.
Personal Life
Richard Kind was married to Dana Stanley from 1999 to 2018. They have three children: a son named Max, and two daughters named Samantha and Skylar.
Kind lives in Manhattan, New York City. He was honored by his old school, Pennsbury High School, in 2022.
George Clooney, a close friend, once stayed at Kind’s apartment in Los Angeles. Clooney played many jokes on Kind during that time.
