History of Ringwood
How Ringwood Started
Ringwood was first settled in 1837 by two men named Dr. Luke Hale and Wm. H. Beach. They both came from Vermont. People say the original settlement was surrounded by a circle of trees, which is how it got the name "Ringwood."
Growing the Village
In 1845, a post office was set up in Ringwood. This helped local businesses and people living on the edge of McHenry get their mail. The small village was officially mapped out in 1854. This process, called "platting," helped create roads and other important services. It also allowed people to legally own land for farming, homes, and businesses.
To keep its small-town feel, Ringwood officially became an "incorporated" village on November 15, 1994. This means it gained its own local government to make decisions for the community.
