Rodersdorf is a small town, also called a municipality, in Switzerland. It's located in the Canton of Solothurn, specifically in the Dorneck area. Rodersdorf is special because it sits right on the border with Alsace, a region in France.

History of Rodersdorf

Rodersdorf was first mentioned in official records way back in 1226. Back then, it was called Ratolsdorf. Later, in 1349, its name changed slightly to Roderstorff.

Rodersdorf covers an area of about 5.34 square kilometers (about 2 square miles). A big part of this land, about 54.3%, is used for farming. Forests cover another 30.5% of the area. The rest of the land, about 14.2%, has buildings or roads. Only a tiny bit, 0.2%, is unproductive land.

Most of the built-up area includes homes and other buildings (8.8%). Roads and other ways to get around make up 3.7%. Parks and sports fields cover 1.5% of the town. This town is in the Dorneck district, located in the upper Leimen valley. Rodersdorf is unique because it's an exclave of the Canton of Solothurn. This means it's a part of Solothurn that is surrounded by other areas, in this case, Basel-Country and Alsace in France.
