Rondell Bernard White, born on February 23, 1972, is a former American professional baseball player. He was an outfielder and designated hitter in Major League Baseball. Rondell was known for his strong defense and for hitting really well, with a batting average of .300 or more for four years in a row!

Early Baseball Days
Before he joined the big leagues, Rondell White was a star at Jones County High School in Gray, Georgia. He played both baseball and basketball there. In 1990, he was named Player of the Year by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and was also chosen for All-America teams by USA Today and Collegiate Baseball.
Rondell White's Professional Baseball Journey
Starting in the Minor Leagues
Rondell White was picked by the Montreal Expos as the 24th player in the first round of the 1990 Major League Baseball draft. He spent four years playing in the Expos' minor league system, from 1990 to 1994. In 1993, he played amazingly well for the Ottawa Lynx, hitting for a .380 batting average in 42 games. This great performance earned him a promotion to the Expos. He made his first appearance in a major league game on September 1, 1993, when he was 21 years old.
Hitting for the Cycle
On June 11, 1995, Rondell White had one of the most exciting games of his career. He hit for the cycle against the San Francisco Giants! This means he hit a single, a double, a triple, and a home run all in the same game. He also got 6 hits in 7 at bats during that thirteen-inning game. He was only the fourth player in Expos history to achieve this rare feat.
Playing for Different Teams
In 1997, White hit a career-high 28 home runs for the Expos. He was also a top defensive player, leading National League center fielders in putouts. On July 31, 2000, the Expos traded White to the Chicago Cubs.
After playing two seasons for the Cubs, he joined the New York Yankees in December 2001. In March 2003, he was traded to the San Diego Padres. That same year, he was chosen to be a reserve player for the National League team in the 2003 All-Star Game. Later in August 2003, he was traded again, this time to the Kansas City Royals. He finished the 2003 season with a career-high 87 runs batted in between the two teams.
After the 2003 season, he became a free agent and signed with the Detroit Tigers. He played two seasons with the Tigers before signing with the Minnesota Twins in December 2005. Rondell White played his final major league game on September 30, 2007, at the age of 35.
Rondell White's Career Numbers
During his fifteen-year career in Major League Baseball, Rondell White played in 1,474 games. He collected 1,519 hits in 5,357 at bats, giving him a career batting average of .284. He also hit 198 home runs and had 768 runs batted in.
He was an excellent fielder throughout his career. He led the league in putouts in 1997 and twice led the league in fielding percentage as an outfielder. He finished his career with a .989 fielding percentage as a center fielder and a .985 fielding percentage as a left fielder, showing how reliable he was in the outfield.
