A Look Back: Rose Creek's History
Rose Creek started as a community in 1868. This was when the railroad tracks were built to reach that area. The city got its name from a nearby stream, also called Rose Creek.
A post office opened in the community in 1868. Later, in 1899, Rose Creek officially became an incorporated city. This means it formed its own local government.
Where is Rose Creek?
Rose Creek is in the southwestern part of Mower County. It is surrounded by Windom Township.
Minnesota State Highway 56 runs along the north and east sides of the city. This highway can take you about 5 miles (8 km) northwest to Interstate 90. It also goes about 6 miles (10 km) southeast to Adams.
Austin is the main city in Mower County, known as the county seat. It is about 11 miles (18 km) northwest of Rose Creek. You can get there using Highway 56 and Interstate 90.
The city of Rose Creek covers an area of about 0.49 square miles (1.27 square kilometers). All of this area is land. The stream named Rose Creek flows through the northwest part of the city. This stream eventually flows into the Cedar River, which is part of the larger Iowa River system.
