Rueun was once a small town, or municipality, in the Graubünden area of Switzerland. It was located in the Surselva district. On January 1, 2014, Rueun joined with twelve other nearby towns. These towns became part of a new, larger municipality called Ilanz/Glion.

A Look Back: Rueun's History

The first time Rueun was ever written about was in the year 765. Back then, it was called Ruane. For a very long time, until 1943, the town was known as Ruis.

The Coat of Arms

A coat of arms is like a special symbol for a town or family. Rueun's coat of arms shows Saint Andrew. He is holding a wooden cross that looks like an "X". This symbol comes from the local church in Rueun, which is named after Saint Andrew. This church used to be connected to a place called Disentis Abbey.

Before it merged, Rueun covered an area of about 11.6 square kilometers (about 4.5 square miles). A large part of this land, almost half (46%), was used for farming. Another big part, about 43.7%, was covered by forests.

A smaller portion of the land (4.4%) had buildings and roads. The rest (5.9%) was made up of things like rivers, glaciers, or mountains. Rueun is located in a valley called the Vorderrhein valley.
