Ruth B.'s Early Life
Ruth Berhe was born and grew up in Edmonton, Alberta. Her parents moved to Canada from Ethiopia in the 1980s. Ruth B. can speak Amharic, which is her parents' native language.
When she was a teenager, she worked part-time at a clothing store. She has said she was a "quiet person" and "never the big party chick." While working, she started sharing videos on Vine. She liked Vine because it was easy to upload short, six-second clips. This was simpler than other video sites like YouTube at the time.
Ruth B. finished high school at Ross Sheppard High School in 2013. She later went to MacEwan University. However, she took a break from her studies to focus on her music career.
Her Music Career
Ruth B. posted her first Vine video in May 2013. About a year later, she started sharing singing Vines. These were usually six-second covers of popular songs. They helped her gain many followers.
In November 2014, she posted a Vine of herself singing a line she made up. It was inspired by the TV show Once Upon a Time. This video quickly got about 84,000 likes. Her followers loved it and asked her to make it into a full song. This led to her hit song "Lost Boy", which she shared on YouTube in January 2015.
The song "Superficial Love" was on her first collection of songs, The Intro. It was also on her 2017 album, Safe Haven. This album also included the popular song "Dandelions."
