Early Life and Learning
Ruth Berhe grew up in Edmonton, Alberta. Her parents moved to Canada from Ethiopia in the 1980s. Ruth speaks Amharic, which is her parents' language.
When she was a teenager, she worked at a clothing store. She has said she was a "quiet person" and "never the big party chick." While working part-time, she started sharing videos on Vine. She liked Vine because it was easy to upload short videos, unlike other services like YouTube.
Ruth finished high school at Ross Sheppard High School in 2013. She later went to MacEwan University. However, she took a break from her studies to focus on her music career.
Music Journey
Ruth B. posted her first Vine video in May 2013. About a year later, she started singing in her Vines. These short singing videos, often covers of popular songs, helped her gain many followers.
In November 2014, she posted a Vine where she sang a line she made up. This line was inspired by the TV show Once Upon a Time. This video quickly got about 84,000 likes. Her followers loved it and asked her to make it into a full song. This led to her hit song "Lost Boy", which she shared on YouTube on January 18, 2015.
The song "Superficial Love" was on her first EP, The Intro, and her 2017 album, Safe Haven. The album Safe Haven also included the popular song "Dandelions".
