Saby Kamalich, whose full name was Sabina Fantoni Kamalich, was a famous actress. She was born on May 13, 1939, in Lima, Peru. She passed away on September 13, 2017, in Mexico City, Mexico. Saby was known for her many roles in TV shows and movies.
Her father, Antonio Fantoni, was from Italy. Her mother, Maria Kamalich, was from Croatia. Saby became very well-known for playing the main character in the Peruvian TV show Simplemente María in 1969. Besides her TV roles, she also acted in several Mexican films. One of these was Valente Quintero (1973).

About Saby Kamalich's Life
Saby Kamalich was born to Antonio Fantoni and Maria Kamalich. She became interested in acting when she was young. This happened when Braulio Castillo, an actor from Puerto Rico, came to work in Peru. Saby later shared that she admired Castillo a lot. They stayed friends for their whole lives.
Moving to Mexico
In 1970, Saby moved to Mexico to find more acting chances. She had already been in three stage plays. More importantly, she starred in the 1969 version of the popular TV show Simplemente María. This show is a type of soap opera in Spanish. The Peruvian version was the fourth one made. Earlier versions had been popular in Argentina, Brazil, and Venezuela.
Becoming Famous
Simplemente María made Saby Kamalich famous all over Latin America. People in countries like Guatemala, Nicaragua, Uruguay, and the Dominican Republic watched her. After this big success, she appeared in many other TV shows. She usually played kind and good characters.
One time, in 2005, she played a bad character in a show called Gitanas. In Gitanas, she acted alongside Saúl Lisazo, who played her son.
Later TV Roles
In 2005, Saby also acted in another TV series called Corazón partido. Here, she played a villain again, named "Virginia Graham". In 2007, she was in another TV show produced by Telemundo. This show was Madre Luna, filmed in Colombia. She played a villain in this show too. This was the first time in many years that Saby left Mexico to act in another country.

Acting in the 1980s and 1990s
After the 1970s, Saby's acting work slowed down a bit. In the 1980s, she was in ten TV shows. One of these was Amor en Silencio (1988). In the 1990s, she acted even less often. However, she was in Carrusel de las Américas. This show was a follow-up to the popular children's TV show Carrusel. She acted with Ludwika Paleta in it. In 1998, she and Lucía Méndez acted together in Tres veces Sofia.
Awards and Other Projects
Saby Kamalich was going to receive the Eduardo Arozamena Medal for her great acting. She also won the important Ariel award in Mexico. This award was for best supporting actress in the film Mariana. She also made a movie called Simplemente Maria, based on her famous TV show.
In 2012, she was supposed to play a character named Berenice del Toro in La Mujer de Judas (2012). But she had health problems and could not show up. Another actress, Marta Verduzco, took her place. Later that year, she was set to return with La Otra Cara del Alma.
Saby Kamalich's Passing
Saby Kamalich passed away on September 13, 2017. She was 78 years old.
