Salvador Freixedo (born April 18, 1923 – died October 25, 2019) was a Spanish Catholic priest. He was also a member of the Jesuit order, a group of Catholic priests.

Freixedo was very interested in UFOs (Unidentified Flying Objects) and other paranormal subjects. These are things that seem to be beyond normal scientific understanding. He wrote many books about how religion and extraterrestrial beings (aliens) might be connected. He also spoke at many international UFO meetings around the world. He wrote for magazines like Mundo Desconocido (Unknown World) and appeared on TV and radio shows about these topics.

Early Life and Education

Salvador Freixedo was born in O Carballiño, a town in Spain, in 1923. His family was very religious. His brother became a Jesuit priest, and his sister became a nun. When he was five, his family moved to Ourense. There, he went to primary school and then secondary school.

At 16, he joined the Jesuit Order. He became a priest in 1953 in Santander. He was a Jesuit for 30 years.

Studies Around the World

Freixedo lived in many countries in America starting in 1947. As a Jesuit, he taught Church History in Santo Domingo. He also started a Christian youth movement in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He helped lead this movement in La Habana, Cuba.

He studied many different subjects. He studied humanities in Salamanca, Spain. He learned philosophy at Universidad de Comillas in Santander. He studied theology at Alma College in San Francisco, California. He also studied ascetics (a type of spiritual discipline) in Mont Laurier, Canada. Later, he studied psychology at the University of Los Angeles and Fordham University in New York City.

Research and Writings

From the 1950s, Salvador Freixedo started to have different ideas from the Catholic Church. He wrote some books that shared his views. Because of these ideas, he faced difficulties. He was even removed from the Jesuit Order in 1969.

After 1970, he focused on studying paranormal events. He saw these events as a way to understand other realities. He was especially interested in UFOs and how they might relate to religion and human history. He wrote many books on these subjects. He also started the Mexican Institute of Paranormal Studies. He led its first big international meeting.

Books and Ideas

Freixedo wrote over 30 books. Many of them explored the connection between religion and extraterrestrials.

  • In 1957, in Cuba, he wrote his first book, 40 Cases of Social Injustice.
  • In 1968, in Puerto Rico, he wrote My Church Sleeps. In this book, he said the Church was too narrow-minded. He believed some leaders lacked a good spirit and that some Church beliefs were not logical. This book led to his removal from the Jesuit Order. His book was also banned in Spain.

After leaving the Order, he wrote many books about UFOs and religion, including:
